I haven't tried LED's, but I have installed aftermarket HID's in all 3 passat TDI's that I have owned. Significantly brighter than even LED technology, currently, at least compared to my 2015 SEL e-Golf.

The light cuttoff is clean and non irritating to on coming traffic, in the passat reflectors, I've never been flashed with oncoming brights running them.

Just consider it another possible option, if you need more light on the road.

I’m running the budget HIKARI H7 9660LM and H7 LED Adapter H7 Retainers for VW (and other brands) and after some alignment I’m pretty happy with the increased light output (and it not being yellow light).

However, I’m not really sure to recommend this setup.
  • The H7 adapter does not work with all LED H7 kits (depends on shape of the LED lamp – I had a different first which did not clear the adapter)
  • The adapter does not firmly engage with the lamp – this is really a design issue and I have no idea how this should ever work. I used JB weld to glue on the adapter to the LED ring.
  • I did this w/o removing the light housing, and you need to have a lot of patience to get this in. Very little room, and you need to adjust/bend the adapter
  • The LEDs need to be aligned vertical (more fiddling), and I needed to adjust the height of the lights (easy) to get a clean pattern
It all fit into the stock rubber cap (so no cables hanging out) – again needs patience (and cursing)

Otherwise: With the above LED, the CARBUS is happy, and the radio reception is not affected (no filters needed) and it is much brighter than the stock halogen. There is some slight noise from the LED fan, but you don’t hear it went you drive. Cost for the above setup ~ $50 (plus JB Weld...)

Please don't use any glue or jb weld. That is so wrong in my opinion. Here is what i have done and it works great.

Ideally any LED lamp will work when you use the right adapter.
Let me know if you need any help.

Do you have any pictures of the clip on the H7 bulb and orientation to the LED elements on the bulb? Do the LED's aim at 6 oc'lock and 12 o'clock when installed or 3 o'clock and 9 o'clock?

Sometimes, a picture is worth 1000 words, this is one of them.

For the picture of the clip, click the link below and search for D-101. Note that this is for 2019 eGolf SE model that comes with halogen lights.

The LED lamp I bought was adjustable, so it rotates freely to any orientation, so you can aim at correct angle when it is installed, so that is really not a concern.

I have the exact same clips and light bulb as bsalih and it basically looked like this for me: The clip wobbles https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tFa-vBNSXK4&t=135s I used JB Weld like in the video and it works great – and it is also safe in terms of the temps.

Regarding orientation: I have the LED diodes in 3 – 9 o’clock position. If there in this position, then the pattern is ok. Otherwise you don’t have a good cut-off and blind oncoming traffic.

Thank you!

Looks like they are out of stock at Amazon
Here's a link to Ebay https://www.ebay.com/itm/HIKARI-LED-Headlight-Bulbs-Conversion-Kit-H7-Adjustable-Beam-9600lm-6K/392275242601
Cost at Amazon is $37.
Here are the adapters: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07Q7WQ3SG

For these to fit, the cooling body must be shaped so it doesn't interfere with adapter.
Like these ones https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07CBRXTT6 didn't fit

I'm sure there are LED kits that work but it's a hit and miss (so buy them where you can easily return)

Someone mentions radio interference when doing this, does anyone experience this or any other electrical issues when making this change?

No interference with the one I have: Hikari LED H7 9600lm (which is available at Amazon again - https://www.amazon.com/HIKARI-Headlight-Conversion-Adjustable-Warranty/dp/B07GKRKN5B)
Note that I'm only using regular HD radio, MP3s off an SD card, and Android Auto Spotify - no Sat Radio.

Amazon has a 'deal of the day' on Hikari bulbs. https://slickdeals.net/f/13764158-hikari-led-headlight-bulbs-up-to-40?v=1&src=pdw
