Techinical aspects and design of the e-Golf video

Yes, excellent find! How about the sweet UI the Euro guys get that estimates how much range your HVAC settings are costing you?

CCS DC fast-charging in an extra-cost option package

Well said. The interest charges over the life of my lease amount to $900. That $900 premium entitles me to wash my hands of the car if it proves to be problematic (see: early Leafs). If I still like the car in 3 years, I can buy it with the future value of the money I did not spend on the car...

LA times reviews the 2016 e-Golf

That screen indicates that since the last time the car was charged, he drove 114 miles in 2:58 for an average speed of 39mph. His average energy usage was 6 miles for every kwh. I don't know why it doesn't tell you total energy usage although you can figure it it out yourself: 114/6.0 = 19kWh...

Have to open door before being able to unlock charger

I've seen this consistent behavior: When the car is locked AND STILL CHARGING, one press unlocks the doors, cancels the charging, and releases the charge lock. It takes a few seconds.

    Yes it's a four-seater but...

The e-golf is more aerodynamic than the Leaf so it makes sense. The drag coefficient (0.27 vs 0.28 claimed) is pretty close but the e-golf is 4" shorter while only 1" wider than the Leaf. The net is that the e-golf is about 10% slipperier.

Recharging the 12V AGM battery under the hood.

Taking this out of context - the SEL must have a resistive element too, right? Heat pumps lose efficiency much below freezing, if I understand it correctly. My father in FL has a heat pump in his home and much below freezing and it turns on the element. I've only been down to about 30F so far...

    Dc charging questions

From a heat perspective, I doubt there's much difference between the two. FWIW, battery university says typical charge rates for nickel-manganese-cobalt cells like in the e-golf is 0.7-1C. 7.2 kw is ~0.3C. That is a pretty low charge rate. IMHO, best overnight practice is a delay charge to...

Monster Mats or other aftermarket mats for MK7 will not fit.

I just received mine and they fit perfectly once you cut the tab off each mat that's used to allow for a plastic binder to keep them together in shipping. EDIT: add a pic

    intermittent READY problem

FWIW, I'm 4 for 4 holding the start button until Ready shows up. It takes 4-5 seconds I'd guess, which seems like a bit long to hold the button down. I'll probably return to my stab-the-pedal-many-times approach.

    Listen to your motor.

I accidentally turned AM radio on to an empty band (550, I think). It's amusing to listen to the motor spin up, accompanied with a number of random sounds. My 6yo daughter thought it was great.

Using a power inverter with the e-Golf

Ignoring for a moment that has nothing to do with your oil rant and since this thread is well-ruined anyway, he actually doesn't want to burn gas to make electricity to make his coffee. Unless you're proposing he make his coffee over a gasoline fire, the fact that burning gasoline makes a lot...

Using a power inverter with the e-Golf

That's all lovely except he specifically said he doesn't want to burn gas. That's all he said. Do you really need to sh*t all over a simple technical thread with this nonsense? This is a friggin' car forum.

    intermittent READY problem

When all else fails, RTFM I guess. :) Pg 218. It says to hold the start button down UNTIL the Ready message occurs in the cluster. BTW, you can switch the ignition on but not the motor by pressing the button without pressing the brake or clutch. That's good info - I often press the clutch...

    Stopping Charging from Car-Net

Found a new little annoying thing this morning. I wanted to stop my delayed charge early so I did from the Android app. Looked at the car later and it was charging. Hmmm...stopped it again, this time while watching the car. Turns out it stops charging, realizes it's set to a delay charge...

    intermittent READY problem

I can't figure it out either. Hitting the button, then stabbing the pedal a bunch of times works for me and has become my habit. When I just hold the pedal it doesn't always work as you guys have found. Without anything to back it up, my pet theory is that the ECU gets a brake-on signal when...

Using a power inverter with the e-Golf

It would probably work fine IF you can figure out how to keep the car ON for an extended period. It really likes to shut down when not moving and in Park.

Understanding charging speeds 3.6 vs 7.2kwh 1,2,3 levels

I suspected that's what you were getting at. You should have just said so. Do you have a reference to VW documentation that says that? Because it almost certainly does not only top-balance. The Leaf BMS has been shown to activate balancing at any time when plugged in. Consensus is that an...

Understanding charging speeds 3.6 vs 7.2kwh 1,2,3 levels

What are you trying to say? Don't charge to 80%? Make sure you let it sit plugged in for a while? The pack certainly has some kind of balancing mechanism but any cell drift is likely to take a long time to manifest based on what the Leaf guys say. Without knowing what VW actually does...

    Overnight Charge

Indeed. bizzle is in no way out of line, he just doesn't understand the details.

How much will a 2,000 ft hill affect range?

Well stated. The lease is a hedge against the unknown. I'm fairly certain there are a number of Leaf owners in the southwest who wished they had leased.
