Does anyone have any suggestions for carrying bicycles with the e-golf? I have used a hitch mounted rack with my 2 Jetta TDI's for years and had better fuel economy than with my roof racks. With aerodynamics being so critical to the e-golf range, is there any hitch mount option for the e-golf?

I haven't found a specific hitch for the e-Golf. However, the e-Golf is build on a modular chassis that the other Golfs share, so one for a 2015 Golf should work. I looked at an install video for a Curt hitch, and the underside where the bolts attach appear to be the same as on the e-Golf.

Thanks for the advice. I've looked at the Curt hitch on etrailer.com but they specifically say that it does not fit the E-Golf on the website. I'd hate to order it and have it not fit. Do you have a link to the install video?

I contacted Curt and they said they couldn't make a recommendation since they didn't have an e-Golf to test it with, so e-trailer just doesn't want to make any false promises since they haven't tested it themselves either. If you take a look at the install video here http://goo.gl/FUZhBF, you can see that the underneath of the Golf looks pretty much the same as the e-Golf. The large oval hole and the suspension bolt hole are in the same places. I might take the plunge and just go ahead and try it if I can't find a local dealer carrying the Curt. Shipping it back would be a little pricey though though certainly cheaper than buying a robust trunk rack.

I mounted the Curt hitch without any problems. It took all of about 15 minutes to do. You probably won't find a manufacturer that spec's a hitch for the e Golf because it is not rated to tow by VW. I believe the model # is C11355.

I am looking into this option for bike transport myself, can anyone confirm that the curt hitch mounted ok on the e-golf? Maybe some photos?

Can you confirm the model number you installed? Very interested in ordering one soon. Thanks in advance.

I also mounted the Curt Code C11355.
Fits perfectly and installs in less than 30 minutes.
You can find it here: http://www.etrailer.com/Trailer-Hitch/Curt/C11355.html

Somebody asked for pictures...

Here my eGolf with a 1up USA Single bike tray folded up:

Three trays mounted and ready to load bikes:

These trays are quite light but very sturdy and the won't sway.
I usually keep a single tray on and add additional trays if I transport more bikes.

I used to have the roof mount version on my Sportwagen but prefer the rear mount on the eGolf

for those of you who have installed one of these any noticeable affects on range after install?

I've added them to 2 passats, and 1 touareg, and no difference, insignificant. Now the bike rack with bikes on it is a whole different story, but the hitch doesn't change the range.

Good to know.

Does anyone have a pic of the hidden hitch on the eGolf?

I installed and removed the Curt hitch seeing I didn't like fitment. The mounting points are way to close to the charging lines and sits 3" below the rear valence...

I get the need for areodynamics with our cars. But given that they are primarily city machines that are boating around town, I have elected to go old school with a genuine VW roof rack. See the pic, it's not that 'dirty' aerodynamically. I may yet switch to the 1up though.

Hahaha, didn't know I was gonna have to conger up my rusty HTML skills to post a pic ;)

it was super easy and looks great!

Was there any issue with proximity to the power lines with this model as dieselgti experienced with the 11355 model? From the look of the photos, the 11412 is narrower so maybe it picks up different mounting points..? The Curt site selector tool recommends the 11355 for the e-Golf, but looking up the 11412 it says it's suitable for any 2 or 4 door Golf.

I'm thinking of going this route because while it's possible to get two bikes in the back with the seats folded down, it's not quick or easy and it's certainly not good for the bikes...

I have a Performance Xport 2 bike bike rack for sale, if anyone is interested. Comes in 1 1/4" with also a 2 in hitch adaptor. $100, firm. Has worked perfect with my Jetta, my passat, and if I installed a hitch on it, my e-Golf too. PM me if interested, in Los Angeles area.
