I just picked up an eGolf SE at the $79 (+ tax = $87) lease rate. I qualified for the $2,000 credit as a current VW owner.

There was a $625 loan initiation fee. Of course I had to pay tax and license, so the total out of pocket came to about $3,200.

But today I applied for the $2,500 California rebate -- uploaded all the documentation, no problem. If that really comes through, then I will have paid about $700 up front and $79 + tax per month.

Seems like a no-brainer lease to me. Am I missing something? (too late anyway)

Still seems too good to be true. I've been doing errands with the family in the eGolf, pondering a Level 2 charge station for the garage. Commuted to work in it Friday. All positive so far.

Thanks for the info. Curious -- where are you located?

Thanks, Steve

I'm in Northern California, the East San Francisco Bay Area to be specific. This same lease deal seems to be offered at a few VW dealerships around here, including Sunnyvale. Got mine at the Hayward dealership.

Truly the only bad thing about my SE is the 3.6 kw onboard charger, which would make for poor resale ... but I'm on a 3 year lease, so it will be going back to VW anyway. And if it can charge in 6 hours or less overnight, then I can commute the next day. No problem there.

Thanks for the info! I am also in the SF Bay Area, very close to the Sunnyvale dealership. I'll check into this. I assume it is a 7500 mi/year lease?

As for resale in 3 years, the range of only 80 miles will be a liability in 3 years anyway, and that would apply to the SEL also. :)

Looks like a 2015 SEL is $129/month under a similar deal. A total steal, especially with a VW loyalty credit. You get the $2500 CA rebate towards the $4500 you spend during leasing (plus tax). That's like less than $100 a month for three years to drive an SEL.

Interestingly the deals don't look that good without the owner loyalty of $2000. For the SE, the lease rates seem to climb to $179/mo even though the extra discount of $2000 on the selling price should only translate to an increase of $40 or so per month for 36 months. Anybody know why?

I don't know why missing out on the owner loyalty would boost the lease price so much. It should only be a difference of $55 per month, so the $79 lease should be about $135, not $179.

To answer stevestrange, the miles are limited to 7,500 per year.

I think it's probably the dealers trying to make the best out of non advertised lease structure. I'm sure the cap cost was changed a bit to get the rate closer to $200 per month. Tempted to pick up one of the remaining 2015 SELs despite the poor infotainment systems in the 2015s

Looks like Boardwalk has the same $79mo deal for the SE going on, but less down payment...

MSRP: $29,850
Term: 36 Months
Annual Mileage: 7,500
Down Payment: $1,618
VW Owner Loyalty Rebate: $2,000
This lease qualifies for the $2,500 State Rebate!

Hello all,

I just picked up a 2016 Night Blue e-Golf SE from http://www.newcenturyvw.com in Glendale, Ca. CJ was very helpful and he more or less matched the offers fromNorCal (thanks to bingtamers) Out of pocket was slightly over $3700, as I qualified for the $2000 loyalty program (W12 Phaeton, don't ask why:)
My monthly payment was $79 plus tax and a $14 vehicle service fee, totaling to around $102 for 36 months, 7500 miles/year. They told me that the service is not included in the 2016 MY, and the cost would be a couple hundred per required (annual) visit. Bottom line, after my $2500 state rebate = $1200 down and $102/month.
This is our second electric car, the other one is a Fiat 500e, and frankly, and can not imagine going back to ICE. I know these incentives will not last much longer, but I still prefer the instant torque of EV's.

Cheers!

I guess I should have bought a VW 15 years ago instead of an Audi! The $2000 difference would likely push me to sign, but without that, there are some other EV options I need to investigate first. Fortunately, I can keep my Fit EV month-to-month until I find something more attractive.

Your fuel and especially maintenance costs will be far, far less with the eGolf

(For those not aware, a W12 Phaeton is basically a Bentley under the VW styling. It was even assembled in the same factory in Germany as some Bentleys.)

Vladimir, glad to hear you got a similar lease in Glendale. I'm liking this car more every day. If you go into Eco mode, switch from P to B and activate the strong regen braking, you can get over 100 miles per charge. (I also turn off the air conditioner and roll down my window.) This is so much more efficient than an ICE. Don't think I'll be going back, either.

This matches my experience... windows down, AC off, 60 mph on cruise control, and 100 mile before adding electrons is easily doable. I don't drive in "B" mode, I instead use it like a hand brake, only engage "B" when I need to come to a complete stop. Drive defensively, and you can really stretch the miles between recharges.

Just leased a 2015 SEL yesterday. I also went with Hayward VW, and they were very pleasant to deal with. They had only two 2015s left. Despite all the complaining about the infotainment system, it works well enough for me. It's generally an improvement over systems I've had in previous cars, although it would be nice of the screen was bigger for maps (I generally use my phone anyway).

Pics, of your new baby? I find I can add about 30 miles an hour, maybe a bit more, at a good level 2 charger, if my gauge is starting out with 127 to 129 miles on a full battery, no AC, no lights, no fan.

My deal was quite similar to this, except I wanted 12K miles/yr instead of 7500 (I assume that's what the $129/mo gets you). So mine is $169/mo (+ tax), and the cash out the door was about $4060 (including tax).

There are still a few 2015 SELs floating around the SF Bay Area. The dealership I went with had run out, and then got three more in last week, so there may still be a few trickling in.

Bay Area picking up the car tomorrow. 16 SE

36 mo. 15k
135 a month with tax
2500 drive off.

so after i get my rebate back it will just be the 135 a month. :D :D

Hmm, I better get on the phone tomorrow morning.

My wife just initiated paperwork for a 2016 SE at $199 per month. After the $2k loyalty bonus and 0 down, we're at $236 after taxes (that's for 10K miles). I'd rather get 7500 miles and close to that $79 dollar per month.
