Do 2018 e-golf have covers over the motor?

In the US, I think they omitted the plastic cover starting with the 2017's, but I'm not completely sure.

    Driving 100% in B mode?

This is true of the e-Golf and many other EVs. However, Tesla has chosen not to engage any additional regen when pressing the brake pedal. If you set the regen to "Low" in a Tesla, you will be giving up the majority of the kinetic energy in the car to the friction brakes. That is why the Low...

    Any e-golf owners in Arizona?

I know what you mean about regret. Our 2015 LE was only tolerable because we knew it was going back at the end of the lease. No cruise control? Seriously? It is SO not an issue with the Model 3 we purchased.

DC fast charging the 2017 e-Golf twice, back to back

You didn't say where you are and what you expect the outside temperature to be. Chances are, this time of year, it's not a problem at all. The main reason for avoiding back to back charges is heat accumulation. When it's cold outside the battery doesn't get as hot, so it's much less of a worry...

key fobs dead, can't unlock charger from car

For future reference, the door unlock button on the front doors also unlocks the charge port.

Hello all - new 2018 e-Golf owner (with charging question)

Any AC charging on the e-Golf, no matter the speed, will be gentle on the battery. The only time you need to consider how fast you're charging is on DC Fast Charge. The slower 24kW DC chargers are certainly gentler on the battery and some consider that to the the fastest that you should charge...

fell in love and bought a 2016 SE

SE without quick charge can only take 15 amps. However, if you're going to spend money to install a new circuit and you have the capacity in your electrical panel, I would put a bigger circuit - either 40 or 50 amps - so you can charge at up to 32 or 40 amps with a different vehicle. That way it...

fell in love and bought a 2016 SE

I don't recommend the Siemens EVSE. There is a 20% Black Friday sale on ChargePoint Home units now. The 32A unit with 18' cable is $519. I know that almost $100 more than the Siemens, but the delay functions on the Siemens don't work with the e-Golf and they are known to have other compatibility...

    Newbie preheating question

His sig says he's in Canada. They have been delivering 2018 e-Golfs there since February 2018. The problem is that there are not many Canadian owners on this forum.

2019 battery pack for 2015 and newer eGolfs!

That's hilarious. It's never going to happen through sanctioned channels.

This guy is also spamming his links across multiple EV forums.

Want to buy: Silver or gray 2016 SEL Premium (SoCal)

Good luck finding one for sale with DAP. The Driver Assistance Package was "Late Availability" in the 2016 model year. Anyone who got one new probably had to go out of their way to get it and would be unlikely to part with it before the lease is up, or bought it originally knowing that they...

Article about e-Golf ownership in AutoTrader.ca

The 80% figure cited in research is usually relative to the total maximum capacity of the battery cells. VW and every other EV maker has already left a buffer at the top and bottom of the battery in order to prolong its life. So, the 90% that the car is showing you is probably more like...

Model Year 2018 announced for the US

VW needs the Zero Emissions Credits to apply to the 2018 model year because that's how CARB tracks them. After they start shipping the Audi e-Tron in equivalent volume, they won't care so much about the e-Golf ZEV credits.

    VW Connect

I have only heard of UK owners using this service. I understand it is an OBD dongle based service. I think this is unnecessary with the e-Golf since it supports telematics with built-in systems. I'm unclear why a UK dealer would provision this on your vehicle unless they were able to charge you...

    End of Lease Inspection

VW charged us for the "missing key" from the report even though the actual dealer return form indicated both keys were received. I had to call them and submit a copy of the dealer return acknowledgement. Then they took it off the lease closing invoice. Then, we only owed the Disposition Fee.

Buy 2017 e-Golf now or buy it after 2018 model comes out?

The dealer does not need to be involved. Go direct to the VW entity that actually administers the plan. They will handle the prorated refund.

    MY2018

A guy from Speedcraft VW in Rhode Island posted in the e-Golf Facebook group that he just received 2018 e-Golf information. He has the ordering guide but the only thing of substance he said was that the battery was the same as the 2017. He is inquiring about availability. He gave his e-mail...

    Car-Net expiring

Complain to VW America Customer Service. There is no other way to set the charging parameters on a 2015, so they should provide ongoing access.

    What does Neutral do?

I experienced the same with our 2015 e-Golf. I had a weird squeal from the friction brakes and thought a good solid braking event coming down a downhill freeway offramp would help. Braking in N resulted in full regen. I didn't want to do a full panic stop, so I just left it alone. We returned...
