Why reverse rear windshield wiper?

In the settings menu on the infotainment system, there's an option to switch the direction of the rear windshield wiper (that is, switch which side it "rests" on). Does anyone know why that would be useful?

Are you sure that's what it does? I thought it made the rear wiper run once when you put the car in reverse while the front rain sensor is wet.
