I bought a 2019 e-Golf SE but am not liking the halogen light bulbs. I was thinking of buying the whole HID headlight assembly that comes with the SEL trim and swap mine out. Would the connectors match up with the HID assembly or would I run into some other problem?

If you want the OEM assemblies, you'll run into a ton of problems. The wiring doesn't match up, and your SE isn't equipped with the slope sensor or tied to the steering to take advantage of the auto leveling and adjustable aim.

You have two choices:

1) Replace the headlight assemblies with HID projector assemblies and HID kit, such as from BEC (commonly referred to as Ed's headlights).
2) Add HID bulbs into the existing assemblies. I recommend the deAutoLED H7RC if you choose this option, as other H7 kits will have a worse beam pattern.

See my signature? I did option #1 for my 2016, and option #2 for my 2019. See my review here:

Agreed with the above post; there are a large number of control modules that aren't present or aren't the same spec level in the SE as in the SEL. It would be super cost-ineffective to retrofit them. If you can live without the adaptive lights, the projector modules linked above would be a great choice

Thank you for your help! Will definitely look into getting one of the two options.

Trying to find HID conversion kit for my 2016 eGolf SE. The BEC Autoparts version listed above appears to be discontinued. Any thoughts on another version? I looked on xenonhids.com but they appear to sell everything but the housing, which would probably be a bad idea given the differences between HID and halogen. Any help in the right direction would be appreciated, thanks.

I personally just went with LED bulbs in the stock housing, $50 cost and much better than stock output. But if I were going to drop some money I'd probably get new assemblies from aliexpress or the like. For example: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32855010067.html
I haven't seen any with blue accents to match the eGolf but silver should still look good. You can get them with LED or HID or no bulbs. If you want to go with just LED bulbs in stock housing you need clips, see here: https://www.reddit.com/r/eGolf/comments/cto7wp/replaced_low_beam_halogen_lights_to_led_lights/

For a 2015-2016 e-Golf, most definitely do NOT drop in LED or HID bulbs into a stock halogen housing. The halogen housings have a truly awful beam pattern, so most definitely replace the housings if you seek better lighting.
