Has anyone tried the plethora of LED bulbs available as a retrofit for H7 headlights? I imagine you can get a lot of energy savings from them just like LED bulbs for home.

You might have better luck with that doing a search on VWvortex, there's a lot more golfs out there with halogen headights and folks putting in HID's or LED's after market. Halogen headlight platform is common among all Golf A7 platforms, gas, TDI, etc.
Interested as well, isn't there another bulb in the housing as well, so if you replace the main H7, you'd still have some yellow in there from the other halogen.
Something like this, great reviews and seem pretty plug and play if they fit that is, seem pretty big...
