I am currently planning a road trip across Europe and am trying to figure out how much data Waze uses in the E Golf?

Not very tech savvy and have not used Google Maps or Waze much when driving at home as most of my driving is just a commute.

For reference I am in the UK.

I always use Google Maps when driving, and over the past month I've used 121mb. So I imagine for a road trip across Europe you'd use around 100 megabytes. You use more data when entering a new area as you don't have the maps downloaded on your device, but it shouldn't break the bank. No idea how cellular plans work in the UK, but I have Project Fi and they charge me $10 USD per 1 Gigabyte of data used, so costs about $1-2 dollars per month for me to use Maps.

I'd expect similar results from Waze.

For Google Maps, you can download offline maps of areas you'll be traveling through, thereby reducing data usage.

Ah thankyou, I don't think we have Fi in the UK, just a few different networks. I was thinking of using one called Three as they have some deal where you get 200mb per month free https://www.tigermobiles.com/blog/three-data-reward-sim/. From you saying you only use 121mb it sounds like it will be enough and I can not have any expense :)

Did not know that, thanks. Maybe I will use Google instead of Waze since you can download.
