Good deal for 2016 SE?

There is a 2016 E-Golf with DCFC available at a local dealership with around 2500 miles on the clock. They are asking for 20K. The warranty started running out in May 2016 but the car is unregistered and qualify for the $7500 federal rebate.

If the warranty is running then it was registered.

I think the car was put "in service" in 2016. This would explain the warranty already running. It was probably used as a demo but never registered.

Not true. I bought a dealer-demo Maxima that had just shy of 7,000 miles on it, and was first put in service 6 months earlier. (I later found out it was leased to the Service Manager.) It was never registered with the DMV, and was driven on "DLR" plates, so it counted as a new purchase, which qualified me for a special offer from Nissan. But my warranty was 6 months and 7,000 miles shorter than with a truly brand new car, so that formed a basis for my negotiation.

California law allows a "new" car to have up to IIRC 7500 miles on the odometer.

I agree with RonDawg. It's possible to have a car used as a demo, begin warranty, but never be registered.

A car that has never been registered would get the full $7500 credit and should qualify for California rebate provided the odometer has under 7500 miles.

Thanks all, didn't know about that driving under DEALER plates would run the warranty.

Also didn't notice the 7500 rule. (As I never thought there was an unregistered car with 7500 miles)
