get new car today but carplay does not work

My iphone 7 plus with 12.4 ios does not like my new 2019 SE and "fail to connect" is shown on the car screen. tried friend's iphone 6 plus and it works. googled all solutions, like change cable, reset setting, etc but none works. any one has clue?

Another gotcha that seems specific to the e-Golf is the phone must be unlocked when cable is inserted.

I just updated my iPhone 7 plus to 12.4 last night and it works fine in my i3.

thanks. none of my iphone 7 and ipad mini 4 works. my friend iphone 6, dealer's iphone 7 and 8 are working. I even restored my iphone and ipad to factory, still do not work.
