Hei!

New on this forum........

I have an US imported e-Golf 2015 model.
The current Navigation do not work in Europe, (Surprise.........)
Any suggestions of how to get it to work, other than changing the whole unit?
Do Pioneer supply a Navigation that will work in an e-Golf?
Thanks!

Why doesn't it work? Do you need maps of Europe to get it to work? That sits on a SD card in the glovebox in slot number 1. SD map cards are not cheap, maybe you can get one out of a junkyard?

The VW software in the head unit is completely different between US and EU versions for the 2015 model year. So, even if you got the maps SD card applicable to a European e-Golf, it may not be the same format required by the US head unit's software.

Good Luck.

Yes. It is not only the maps that is the issue here.
According to the local (Norwegian) dealer, it is the whole unit that needs to be changed, - from US standard to European standard.
If I need to do that, and buy an original VW Navigation unit, - we are talking big money...............

Apparently there are some US models being imported into Iceland also. One owner on the Facebook group was disappointed that he could not CCS fast charge because the car has a CCS Type-1 inlet which is different than the CCS Type-2 chargers in Iceland. There is no adapter to handle this DC Fast Charge issue. AC charging is no problem. Between these two issues - NAV and CCS - I would say that it's not worth it to import US model e-Golf cars to Europe.

I think the only affordable option to get a European NAV head unit is to look for a crashed car at a wrecking yard. British English has a different term for this kind of business that sells used parts from crashed cars - I just don't remember what it is. In the USA, many high value parts from wrecked cars are taken out and listed individually on eBay. I think the sellers have found that they can monetize the cars faster by putting in the labor and shipping instead of relying on the Pick-and-Pull strategy of having customers come and remove the parts themselves.

Anyway, even if you did get the head unit, are you sure the dealer could get all the information screens and charging controls working with the rest of the car?

I was hoping to find a Pioneer unit for this purpose, but Pioneer units do not provide the charging information required for this car.
Looks like I end up looking for a original VW e-Golf unit.
Searched e-Bay with no luck, - so far...........

If all you want is navigation capability, save your money and your trouble. The VW unit is horrible. Your smartphone is much better at navigation.

Unless the dealer has actually performed the swap, I would be concerned there could be more to it than simply exchanging a few parts. You don't want to be paying for their learning curve.

US Nav in a '15 is terrible as Ron said. Did Europe get a better one? I know they have charge time programming built-in.

Actually, that's the other problem with taking a 2015 US e-Golf out of the country. There is no way to program the charge timers outside of the CarNet telematics system. There is simply no user interface in the car that can change those settings. In that respect, the 2016 is FAR better for export since the charge timer controls are in the head unit and there is CarPlay and Android Auto so you can bring your own navigation. The CCS compatibility problem will remain though.

I am new here. I have a US E-Golf 2016 and want DAB+ and different languages in my car. Is the soulution to replace the headunit and thats it. Working? Maybe some coding and find a solution for DAB signals?
