You are correct. There are no brushes on modern EV traction motors.

    e-Golf: long-term reliability

Here are all the problems I recall from this forum. Approximately in order of frequency, highest first. Charge port lock becomes stuck, immobilizing the car and impossible to tow if connected to a public charger. Need to get a pointy thing to force the hard to reach pin back in. Preventative...

2018 CA HOV Tag processing time

In case you didn't catch it, I meant that the cars would be purchased by people in other states or countries, not that the owners would leave the state. The Federal tax credit and State rebate make the used prices of these cars very attractive to people in other places that don't have new...

2018 CA HOV Tag processing time

The White stickers become useless when they expire on 1/1/2019. If the car was issued stickers before 1/1/2017, you may not apply for the follow-on sticker that expires in 2022. If you need a car with HOV stickers, you should probably lease another new one. This is actually what the...

2018 CA HOV Tag processing time

I think 8 weeks is typical. Also, you will be receiving the Red sticker, not white. There has been conflicting information about whether this sticker really will expire on 1/1/2019 as the text says at the link below, or if this will become the sticker that expires 1/1/2022. Creating the new...

    (((SiriusXM))) Deals

If you like SiriusXM, don't ever pay more than average $5/month for it. Before your sub auto-renews at the ridiculous full price, call them to cancel. They will eventually come back around to this deal for customer retention. Funny story. We don't have XM signal in our garage because it's...

    Your highest mileage before re-charging

It is not possible at speeds consistently over 55mph. The average speed must be much lower, like 45mph and few stops to get 6mi/kWh. JT is retired and as he said above, has the patience to drive slower, even on city streets, to achieve that number.

Federal tax credit - Is it dollar for dollar?

Yes, the tax you owe is the only limit to your ability to take EV tax credits.

Tire Puncture and Why You Should Wash Your Car

I also got a screw in one of our original e-Golf tires. It was losing air and the TPMS did put up a message on the dash. The tire shop said that the patch inside the tire must be completely on the flat portion, not bent up the inside of the sidewall. I had to buy a new tire.

    2019 e-Golf 'unlikely'

My guess: Everything going down the line at Wolfsburg was 2018 as of 2017 Week 45, but VW America still needs more CARB credits for the 2017 model year.

Now I've seen the worst charger design

Toyota only provides J1772 charging with a Tesla 40 amp 10kW on-board charger on the RAV4 EV. The car has a 41.8kWh battery. The CHAdeMO port shown is aftermarket. That's why it's under the hood like that. It makes the car much more useful for regional travel like around the SF Bay Area or...

    rebate versus discount

Yes, if you can get it written up as a dealer discount you don't pay sales tax on it.

    Is there a 'play/pause' button?

Just put it on a FM radio station and turn the volume down. It will show the mute symbol on the center screen.

    rebate versus discount

Whether purchase or lease, any manufacturer's rebate is after you pay the sales tax on the purchase price. The tax credit is usually passed through to you from leasing company like a rebate.

Buy 2017 e-Golf now or buy it after 2018 model comes out?

If that dealer didn't have any and was unwilling or unable to order a 2017 for you, then I'm not at all surprised that they would make the 2018 look as bleak as possible to convince you to buy something that they did have available for sale.

    $5,000 eGolf purchase?

Our 2015 LE lease is up next month, but we will extend until we get our Model 3. The residual is $13k. It would sell at retail slightly above that today since it has less than 24k miles. However, I see slight downward pressure on the values due to the expiration of the old White and Green HOV...

    rebate versus discount

It depends on State law. In California, you pay sales tax on the selling price, as you pay for it. Let me clarify - at the top of the lease is the dealer selling price. That should be thousands less than the MSRP because there are factory to dealer incentives in play. Then they calculate the...

Buy 2017 e-Golf now or buy it after 2018 model comes out?

It's mostly buyer's psychology. Why should you commit to a 125 mile car when you can afford a 200 mile car? In fact, the 84 mile original e-Golf works well for many families as one car in a two-car household. Once you get a 200 mile car with fast charge capability and decent fast charge...

Buy 2017 e-Golf now or buy it after 2018 model comes out?

History is repeating itself. VW is holding the next model year cars that are already in-country at the port while they wait for the prior model year inventory to be sold. For the 2016->2017 USA model year change, there seemed to be a bunch of 2016's still left at the port as well after the...
