I have the traffic info as well and in Canada. It is broadcasted in the radio signal from most radio stations along with the RDS information. You will see TMC (traffic message channel) displayed on the stations that broadcast it. I was initially surprised by it as well.

Are you in the US or Canada? In Canada, since there isn't Car-Net, tethering via a cell phone or hotspot doesn't do anything for those services. The only "value" I have found so far in connecting to a Wi-Fi network is to enable the Discover Pro (MIB3) to use this as a source to play music...
