    current/volt information when charging

That is a decent meter. I have used half a dozen with no problems. When my garage is over 100 degrees F the edges darken but it is fine when it cools off. All LCD's get sluggish in cold weather but I do not expect that problem. The last one I purchased was 16.88. The price has sure come down! I...

    California Clean Air Vehicle Decal

I ordered some magnetic sign backing from Amazon. When it gets here I am going to use it with the stickers. I will only put them on when needed, otherwise they will be in the glove compartment waiting.

EV auto accident - HOV sticker loss

When I was rear ended I lost the stickers. The body shop cut them out and gave them to me. I had to send the old ones to the DMV along with a check for the replacements. It took 2-3 weeks for the replacements.

    L1 Charging

Free electricity did not even come close to being on call. I am glad I retired. NO MORE ON CALL!

    L1 Charging

I will take your word for it. I have never charged at other than my garage or work. The shop in Long Beach that I retired from had 240V (only used for the roof air units) and 208/120V's. In a previous life it was a propane tank mfg so there was enough energy available to run a small city. My...

    L1 Charging

As an experiment I decided to see what the maximum 120V current is when charging my SEL. I set the pilot to 30A and it charged at 30A. This means you could have something like an OpenEVSE unit with a plug to match a 120V only RV park and charge at 30A. This is like the enhanced Nissan Leaf. Both...

SEL Lease in the Bay Area

They currently have no money. They expect funding in December. I am approved and on the list. When ever the check arrives it will be welcome.

    Lease Offer in MD

One of the things I want to check is the maximum current at 120V. The Leaf can charge at full current, As I understand it the Tesla charger in my Mercedes B is limited to 20A. I can test the eGolf at its at least 30A but it is only a test. I charge at 240V! Someone pointed out that some RV...

    Lease Offer in MD

I am charging my eGolf SEL with the same 40A OpenEVSE that I charged my Mercedes B. The eGolf tells the EVSE to supply 30A so the rest is wasted. The eGolf is J1772 compliant . I build OpenEVSE's as a hobby. I like the Quick Charge Power's 40A J1772 cable. The paired wires make it smaller than...

SEL Lease in the Bay Area

I got a reply from the rebate people that my lease copy was unreadable. I photo copied the very long contract and I emailed it to them. Hopefully that is good enough. If not then it is off to Staples again. The communications with them is good. Too bad they are out of money but getting on the...

SEL Lease in the Bay Area

There is nothing wrong with a young Lab except waiting out the age. I prefer an adult but many want to start from a puppy. I am still waiting for my B to be totaled but even if it is not the car will sit for 14 months. I can afford two payments and I will not drive a repaired frame damaged car...

SEL Lease in the Bay Area

In any event anyone reading this already has a car and in California there is no recourse so be happy with what you have. The biggest joke is reading the Edmunds prices paid forums. Some (liers) completely forget to mention the 10K trade in allowance they received. Everyone wants the best deal...

SEL Lease in the Bay Area

Corrected the typo. At VW of Orange there was no SEL subsidy but only the SEL had the safety options of Drive Assist.

SEL Lease in the Bay Area

I just leased an SEL. They tried real hard to push me into an ES. Currently VW subsides the ES for low payments. There is no subsidy on the SEL. It is all up to you. Who knows what the future holds. Many here did get VW subsidies on the SEL.

Looking to buy e-golf in next few months

My Mercedes is 634 tax included with 6K down. so I am OK with my 1K down payment. Yes, I realize I missed out on VW supported prices but I got drive assist that was not on the dealers ES cars. It was a must have deal breaker. The sales manager really tried to talk me into an ES.

Looking to buy e-golf in next few months

Currently VW only subsides the ES so right now you are golden. Next month who knows. Either you take today's deal or you bet it will go down. Unless you have a crystal ball it is in the air. I recently bought an SEL. Currently there is no VW support but I had to have drive assist. Some on this...

Is an E Golf the right choice

As long as you can charge at work then go for it. Without charging you would have to hypermile it for that distance. When I was working my city let me L2 16A charge for free but in a pinch I was good since the one way distance was 19.6 miles. Now that I am retired my wrecked Mercedes B EV had...

    My 2016 SE lease

I could have had a similar deal but I had to have an SEL with drive assist. Oh well it is less than my Mercedes B EV.

    California Clean Air Vehicle Decal

My dealer gave me the decals at closing. I am now retired so I almost never drive on the freeway. I think the white decals will really mess up my gray car so I am not going to put them on. On my Mercedes B I used the stickers once to bypass the signal at the on ramp. I never used the car pool...

    Sel lease

I am retired and I drive less than 5K per year. I will consider buying my car at lease end. At 13K it is affordable. At that time it will have less than 20K. When I was working I drove 19.6 miles each way. Thees days except for the TRW swap meet I drive close to home.
