    Home charging

Interesting discussion here. Has anyone tried charging an eGolf on the "Voltec" branded 240V wall-mount EVSE by SPX? This is the one that GM promotes for use with a Volt. I'm not surprised that there are some teething issues with the eGolf and certain EVSEs. Most of the major EVs had...

    Optimal battery % charge

Lithium batteries in general like to be just under 50% charged - about 45%. But the curve is fairly flat from 20% - 80%, with little difference in this range. This is why many EVs give you the option to charge to 80%. The Volt always keeps its battery in this range. Of course, it can afford...

    VW eGolf in Volkswagen commercial

Yeah, I was very excited to see this commercial on TV. My wife was not so enthusiastic when I practically jumped off the couch and shouted at the e-Golf :D

    November 2014 Sales

We'll see if they take a chunk out of Nissan's sales. If they reach those levels of sales, I will be impressed. But they might put a hamper on lower-production EVs like the Ford Focus or even the BMW i3.

CCS Chargers New York City area

An adapter absolutely can be made to convert either way between the two standards. The trouble is, it would not be cheap. Tesla's adapter is $450. A CCS/CHAdeMO adapter would be at least as much. It cannot just be two connectors and a cable. Just because I speak English and French is spoken...

    Level 2 home charging experiences

I paid about $650, installed, for my 15A Voltec unit. But I did the labor myself and already had a 20A circuit to the garage. Has anybody tried the eGolf with the 240V Voltec unit, made by SPX? I know the eGolf can take 32A, but I'm wondering whether it properly taper back for this unit. The...

    Questions for owners

Great thread. I value this information far more than whatever VW puts out. I am pleased to hear you are getting 3.7mi/kWh on the highway. My Leaf only manages about 3.2 at those speeds. I assume the biggest difference is the smaller frontal area (hence better aero). Another question - in...

Please, give me the sales pitch!

I got it too. It says that the closest authorized e-Mobility dealer is the VW dealer 5 miles from my house. But the closest in inventory is 30 miles away, in Rome, NY. Still cool that they are starting to show up, and outside of CA no less.

    Winter Tires?

This conclusion is not a given. The smaller wheels could have tires with larger sidewalls. This is typically what is done for wheel options on the same car.

    Winter Tires?

As a general statement this is patently false. It is true that the Chevy Volt has a low ground clearance, but you cannot make that blanket statement about all EVs. My Leaf actually has a large ground clearance, and is great in the snow (with proper tires). Moreover, the eGolf uses the same...

    Car-Net issues

Or maybe you've just been subconsciously taking the long way home, since you enjoy driving the car so much ;)

Please, give me the sales pitch!

I too signed up for information and have since been flooded with information on every VW model except the eGolf.

Just had a test drive of e-golf

Do you have significant battery degradation on your Leaf, or are you comparing to the range when new? According to Leaf Spy, my 2 1/2 year old Leaf has lost about 12% capacity, but it's hard for me to know for sure how it has affected range since I very rarely push it that far. As for power...

    Pre-ordered My eGolf Yesterday

I assume by now you have had the car for almost a week. How do you like it?

    Soon to be in Massachusetts

Very interesting to me to hear that a P85 owner, and former Electronaut would prefer an eGolf over an i3. I had figured that the i3 would be a better driving experience (performance, handling, etc), and a more premium feel. Would you share what appeals to you about the eGolf over the i3?

Just had a test drive of e-golf

Thanks for the review Cove. When I'm downstate next month, I'll be sure to head over to White Plains for a test drive. It sounds like almost everything I wish the Leaf was (missing is a little more power, and more range). I have a lot of hopes for the eGolf in coming years. VW has all but...

Just had a test drive of e-golf

Thanks for sharing. It's too bad about the moon roof, I was really hoping that would be an option on this car. How did it handle? Does it have a sportier feel than the Leaf? Did you get a chance to take it through some twisties?

Only 26 members and lot of bmw i3s does not bode well

The soul faces the same challenge as the eGolf WRT looks; it looks just like its gas counterpart, ala Honda Civic Hybrid. The Soul's real advantage is that its battery is 25% larger than the eGolf/Leaf. And in certain markets, the CHAdeMO quick charge port will be more useful than the eGolf's...

Exclusive: First Volkswagen e-Golf Sold In US, Now 21 Major

Yes, the car was sold at auction for a charity. I could not find the final price of the auction - any idea what it took in? This was an interesting publicity stunt by VW. I hope it worked and people are now generally aware of the car (at least those interested in an EV). I'm looking forward...

Only 26 members and lot of bmw i3s does not bode well

Great discussion here. I saw it mentioned a few times that the eGolf will likely outsell the Leaf. I think it can certainly give the Leaf a run for its money, but VW has some serious catching up to do. The specs of the 2015 eGolf are nearly identical to those of the 2013 Leaf SL. Both are...
