Radio always comes on with startup

My guess is that this is an inherent problem with modern software-controlled radios and steering wheel controls. The rotary control that appears to control volume is not like the old variable resistor volume controls on transistor radios. It's just a rotary dial with a counter on the back of it...

Have to open door before being able to unlock charger

The 'open a door' trick had been working well for me. I charge in my garage with the doors unlocked most of the time. After the long Thanksgiving weekend though, even opening the drivers door didn't release the charging handle with the next click on the remote. :( Just when I thought I'd found...

Have to open door before being able to unlock charger

Maybe they've fixed it on later cars. Yours sounds like the way everyone thinks it should work, so either the other methods are mistaken assumptions on VWs part or working around software bugs.

3 year free car-net for eGolf is a scam

On the Car Net website it shows icons at the bottom of the screen for the services available. Battery, Climate and Remote are all available without a paid subscription (though remote does seem limited to unlock). Vehicle health, Speed alert and Boundary alert require a subscription.

Have to open door before being able to unlock charger

I find you don't *have* to open a door, but it's much more reliable if you do. I used to stand by the charging port clicking and clicking on the remote and randomly it would unlock the charging port. If I open the drivers door and then go to the charging port, it always disconnects with the next...

"Current Range" when turn off e-golf

I'm guessing that's a change for 2016. My 2015 just tells me not to forget my cellphone when I turn off..! Don't know why there would be such a big difference in the numbers though - that doesn't seem to make sense.

    East-central Mass public chargers under-subscribed...

That's probably why the Charles Square Hotel garage usually has empty chargers, but if you're going there in the evening, you can download a coupon for flat rate $7 parking which isn't too bad. I've taken my e-Golf to Logan once and I parked in an EV/Hybrid reserved space, but it didn't seem...

    Bike rack options?

Was there any issue with proximity to the power lines with this model as dieselgti experienced with the 11355 model? From the look of the photos, the 11412 is narrower so maybe it picks up different mounting points..? The Curt site selector tool recommends the 11355 for the e-Golf, but looking...

    East-central Mass public chargers under-subscribed...

Wow..! That's a lot of chargers! No wonder they seem under subscribed. Most places seem to put in a single dual-cable post, so if you showed up then and one bay was already taken you'd be more concerned about being able to charge. ;) Good on Stop & Shop for providing so many, and for Wayland...

    Bluetooth question

I've noticed the infotainment system sometimes goes to zero volume when switching between sources. Maybe the phone is activating at zero volume? If you hit volume up during a call, do you see the thin bar in the info screen between the two dials in the dash? I haven't experienced this with the...

    Winter Range of e-golf

I got mine last December, so I used it through the worst Boston winter ever... The trouble is, my commute is very short so I can't really say what range I got. I know the estimated range went down into the mid 60s and I've seen it as high as 110 in the summer but my driving requirements mean I...

3 year free car-net for eGolf is a scam

My car is 10 months old and I just tried the remote unlock through the iPhone app. I got a text message back saying the doors had been unlocked. I am not paying anything for an expanded Car-Net subscription...

    Cabin Heating Issues

That's pretty ridiculous. It sounds like a waste of our time and theirs - if the car is there in the shop, why not apply any and all TSBs that relate to it? Are they worried that applying a fix to a car that isn't experiencing the problem would *cause* a problem? In that case, I'd say it's not a...

    on/off button while driving

I've experimented with this and it takes two presses. The first brings up a warning and the second shuts down. If your car doesn't do that, take it back in to the dealer.

    Cabin Heating Issues

Yeah, there must be something wrong. I used my eGolf through the worst winter in Boston history last year and it was blowing hot air within my 10 minute commute. In fact, I thought it was a big advantage to an EV as the waste heat heating of my previous ICE GTI didn't get time to warm up in my...

How the Heat-Pump works in 2015 SEL

There's a button to turn AC on and off. If you turn it off, you're only getting ambient outside air. If the temperature on the thermostat is set well below the cabin temperature, the auto fan will try very hard to cool to that set point with air that's not cold, so the fan will run fast, but you...

What does 115 hp in EV feel like compared to 2015 1.8L Golf?

I can't compare to the 1.8L but I had a 2.0T GTI previously and as others have said, initial getaway feels much better. No turbo lag, no gear change (though I never had a problem with the DSG). I'd say 0-30 it would beat the GTI, 0-40 it would probably be close and then the eGolf would fall...

The start of the death of VW USA?

I was thinking about that too. The brand is certainly tarnished right now and it seems like the deal with the Red Bull F1 team needs to be done soon as they've very publicly ditched Renault. Maybe it would be something of a path back as the F1 power plant is a hybrid system now... Volkswagen...

The start of the death of VW USA?

It's all a matter of perspective I suppose. I had a 2010 GTI prior to the eGolf and I think the infotainment system is a big improvement. The screen responds to touch a lot faster and there are other improvements across the system. If by 'the software' you mean CarNet, that's outsourced. It's...

The start of the death of VW USA?

The thing is though, the regulations say you have to pass the EPA (or equivalent European) test. They don't say you have to maintain those levels at all times in all conditions in the real world. Everyone knows that you never get the EPA rated fuel economy from a car, and there's little that's...
